Ukraine Protesters Issue Ultimatum After Talks Fail

The recent talks between Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych and opposition leaders resulted in political stalemate. In effect, the opposition have issued an ultimatum to the leader.

‘On the attack’

Ukraine ProtestersProtest leader Vitali Klitschko said that they are ready to rally pro-EU protesters “on the attack” in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, if Yanukovych’s administration refuses a call for snap elections.

According to Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, it “might be possible” to draw compromises, but that the opposition should shy away from ultimatums.

At a mass rally, Klitschko said that the protests could end “without bloodshed” as long as the President responds to the ultimatum.

“Tomorrow, if the President does not respond… then we will go on the attack,” said the opposition leader which was supported by the whoops of the crowd.

Ukraine is experiencing political unrest after the Ukraine leader signed a pro-Russia deal, pulling out of a landmark treaty with the European Union.

Since then, protests filled the streets and violent clashes took place. Two activists were already killed in the clashes between the opposition and the police.
