Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has a reason to celebrate this season, as Forbes magazine named him this year’s highest-grossing actor.
The wrestling superstar turned actor earned more than Robert Downey Jr., as Johnson’s films grossed to a total of $1.3 billion in the past 12 months.
The year 2013 has been a stellar one for Johnson, as he has starred in four films, namely the sequel “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” action film “Snitch,” crime-comedy “Pain and Gain,” and the smash hit “Fast & Furious 6.”
The sixth Fast & Furious film netted $788.6 million worldwide, helping Johnson’s co-actors Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker place on the top 10 of Forbes’s list as well.
Not far behind
Robert Downey Jr.’s “Iron Man 3” is definitely the year’s number one movie, with sales reaching $1.2 billion. This is not far from Johnson’s income, but RDJ has only starred in one flick this year in contrast to Johnson’s four films. The massive success of the third Iron Man installment has propelled Downey Jr. to the second spot of the magazine’s list of top-grossing actor.
