Sofia Vergara has been named Forbes magazine’s highest paid actor in television, male and female, for two consecutive years.
Forbes said that the 41-year-old star earned an estimated $30 million from June 2012 to June 2013.
Vergara is reported to make approximately $175,000 per episode on hit show “Modern Family.” Her salary in the show certainly contributes to her title, but it’s her numerous brand commercials that brought her to the top of this year’s list.
The income of the Emmy-nominated actress has been from lucrative endorsements from brands such as Diet Coke, Comcast, Cover Girl, State Farm Insurance, and a thyroid drug known as Synthroid.
Standing out from the crowd
Winning this year’s Forbes list comes as a welcome surprise at the heels of decades of Hollywood gender discrimination.
Considering the gap of more than $40 million against the highest-paid movie actor of the year, Robert Downey Jr., Vergara’s salary marks a big change for women on screen.
