The Chicago Bulls are clear on pursuing Carmelo Anthony, but star guard Derrick Rose has other things in mind.
When asked on Sunday about the possibility of recruiting the 2012-2013 NBA scoring champion, Rose told Yahoo! Sports that he doesn’t want to take part in it or with any player on the free agency market, even though he believes they can play alongside each other.
Not His Job
“My thing is if they want to come, they can come,” Rose said. “I can play with anybody, no matter who it is. I believe I can play with anyone if they step on the court with me.”
The Bulls have enough cap space to contend for big stars on the market. But the question still lies on how well Rose has recovered from his recent knee injury last season. He averaged 21.8 points and 7.9 assists during the 2011-12 season, playing only 10 games for the last two seasons.
On Playing for Team USA
In spite of recovering from his injuries, Rose said that he is still uncertain on his participation in the Team USA training camp on July 28 in Las Vegas.
“Right now, I haven’t really thought about that. I am just worrying about just trying to get back every day and I’m really taking rehab one day at a time instead of trying to think about competing,” he said.
Bulls Head coach Tim Thibodeau shared the same sentiments as well, ”If he’s ready to go, he’s going. That’s what he’s told me. That’s what he’s told USA Basketball. But it’s a step-by-step process. He’s coming along fine. The next step is to participate in summer league. If that goes well, he goes to USA. And if that goes well, he’ll play in those games. That’s the way we’re approaching it.”
