Djokovic Opens Montreal Masters With A Win Over Mayer

djokovicNovak Djokovic breezes into the third round at the ATP Montreal Masters. His win over Florian Mayer was the Serb’s return to competition after the last Wimbledon.


Mayer made costly mistakes throughout the game. He double-faulted in the early set and everything went downhill from there.The game ended 6 – 2, 6 – 1 in favor of Djokovic.

The recent win stretched Djokovic’s career lead over the German player to 5-0. He now has a record of 40-6 in this season. He is currently vying for his 15th career Masters 1000 trophy.

In the last Wimbledon final, Djokovic lost to Andy Murray. In an interview, he said, “After a month off I didn’t know what to expect… I was extra careful against a tough opponent. I’m keeping my mind-set of step-by-step, one match at a time,” he added.

The tennis world islooking for a potential match-up between him and Rafael Nadal.


Local tennis fansare all smiles as five Canadians entered the third round. Vasek Pospisil, Filip Peliwo, Frank Dancevic, Jesse Levine, and Milos Raonic will have toface players from China, Italy, and France in the next round.
